SnowPine Village in Ellicottville, NY was definitely built with the outdoor enthusiast in mind. While SnowPine is best known for being one of Ellicottville’s only true ski in/ski out properties it also is one of the most convenient locations to stay in the Spring, Summer and Fall seasons if you want to experience some of the abundant outdoor activities that the area has to offer.
A few years ago, Ellicottville, NY was fortunate enough to have been listed as one of National Geographic’s Top 100 Adventure Towns in the Country an honor that doesn’t just stop there. IMBA (the International Mountain Biking Association) also designated Ellicottville’s mountain biking trails as “Epic”. If you are into mountain biking at all then you know that this “epic” designation is quite hard to come by and holds much prestige to avid mountain bikers. Owning or renting a unit at SnowPine Village allows you almost “bike in/bike out” access to some of these infamous single tracks trails as well. Brand new this year and now open is Holiday Valley’s mountain bike flow trail, the Senear Valley Trail. Flow trails are wider, gentler, flowy trails that are built for any skill level or type of mountain bike so bikers of all ages and abilities can enjoy. This trail runs from Spruce Lake through the woods to Champagne and then zigs and zags across the front ski slopes with big banked turns in the woods, and finishes near the Training Center. Hard copy maps of the all WNYMBA trails in Ellicottville are available to purchase at both Holiday Valley and Ellicottville’s Bike and Bean, located in the Village.
Of course for those of you who are into mountain biking but still love the challenge of a ride, we can’t forget to mention SnowPine Village’s road biking access. Walk out your door and take a short ride down SnowPine’s private drive and you have access to a variety of road bike loops and hundreds of miles of scenic riding. See maps of some of the designated loops here: http://www.holidayvalley.com/summer/road-biking/
Not only are the single track mountain bike trails multi-purpose use but if you stay at SnowPine you are also in a prime location to access some incredible hiking, both on the hills and throughout the state land. The Finger Lake Trail and the awe inspiring Little Rock City (a natural outcrop of conglomerate rock on an unglaciated plateau) are just a short car ride away and well worth the small effort that it takes to get there. Holiday Valley will also be running their Spruce Lake Quad lift for chairlift rides both Saturday and Sunday from August 6 through October 16, 11AM to 5PM for only $7 per rider with children under 2 free. Ride up, spend some time at Spruce Lake and enjoy a nice leisurely hike down…unplug and spend some quality, family time outdoors!
Lastly, an outdoor adventure weekend in Ellicottville for the outdoor enthusiast just wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Sky High Adventure Park. Holiday Valley’s unique, arial adventure park lets you navigate yourself through a variety of obstacle courses, placed at different heights throughout the forest with varying degrees of difficulty. The courses consist of zip lines, platforms, bridges, standing drops and many other physical and mental challenges along the way. Not only do you have 13 courses to choose from but the park also includes a climbing forest and the thrilling Sky Flyer Mountain Coaster that zigs and zags and winds down the trail through the trees.
